Optical coatings nowadays play a much more important role not only in the conventional optical system, but also in the emerging industrial applications. The ultimate optical and non-optical performances such as low loss level, thermal stability, mechanical behavior and laser damage threshold are required. Great progress has been made in almost all aspects but there are still problems and barriers to progress.
